Troldtekt launches new acoustic solution: Baffles offer great flexibility in design and installation

The new Troldtekt® baffles present an elegant way to enhance room acoustics while respecting the existing architecture. The slim baffles are suspended vertically from the ceiling – giving the freedom to control the acoustics, visual expression, and even thermal indoor climate.

Good acoustics are essential to well-being, concentration, and clear communication. However, in large spaces, a full acoustic ceiling is not always a viable option. In such cases, the new Troldtekt baffles provide a refined, flexible solution.

Troldtekt baffles help create calm, comfortable sound environments in spaces with generous ceiling heights – such as open-plan offices, retail settings, educational buildings, and other environments where architectural intent and functional performance must align seamlessly.

Their slim, minimalist design in cement-bonded wood wool provides a light, transparent architectural aesthetic that complements a wide variety of interiors styles.

– With the new baffles, we offer architects the freedom to design an acoustic solution that is both efficient and visually integrated -  even in spaces with exposed or heritage ceiling structures, says Cécile Vassort, Head of Product, Marketing & Sustainability at Troldtekt A/S.

– At the same time, we’ve made installation straightforward for contractors and installers through a selection of flexible suspension options – using standard off-the-shelf components wherever possible, she adds.

An effective sound absorber with a considered design

Each Troldtekt baffle is made from two 15 mm Troldtekt panels joined to create a slim 30 mm element.
Suspended vertically, the baffles absorb sound on both faces, achieving a weighted sound absorption coefficient of up to αw = 0.55 – significantly reducing noise and improving speech clarity.

The baffles can either supplement existing wall or ceiling absorbers, or act as a standalone acoustic solution that maintains visual access to services and ceiling structures.

As with all Troldtekt products, the baffles are manufactured in Denmark using certified wood (PEFC/09-31-030 or FSC® C115450) and cement. They are available in the following standard dimensions (30 mm thickness):

>       300 × 600 mm

>       300 × 1200 mm

>       600 × 600 mm

>       600 × 1200 mm

Easy handling – flexible installation options

Troldtekt baffles are designed for easy transport, stacking, lifting, and installation – saving valuable time on site. Each baffle is eqipped with a visible aluminium top profile for secure and uncomplicated installation. Depending on the desired visual outcome, baffles can be installed directly to the ceiling or suspended from wires.

In buildings where materials like concrete are used for their ability to absorb, store and release heat to reduce temperature fluctuations and reduce energy cost, acoustic ceilings cannot be used. Here, suspended baffles are an ideal solution to achieve good acoustics while preserving airflow between the room and the exposed soffit, explains Cécile Vassort. She continues:

– By adjusting the number, orientation, and installation method, it is possible to find the right balance between sound performance, airflow and architectural intent. We believe this solution will appeal to developers, architects, and contractors alike.
