How we manage our water resources

At Troldtekt, we work strategically with water management. For example, we have established a basin for collecting water during heavy rainfall.

Water is one of the four areas of Kingspan’s sustainability programme, Planet Passionate. The goal is for the Group’s companies to harvest rainwater for use in production. In addition, Kingspan contributes to projects for cleaning the world’s oceans of waste.

Troldtekt does not directly contribute to the goal of collecting rainwater for use in production, but as part of our work with the Cradle to Cradle concept, we are working strategically with Water & Soil Stewardship. In this Cradle to Cradle Certified® category, Troldtekt has even achieved the highest level – platinum. Among other things, Cradle to Cradle assesses wastewater management and employee access to clean drinking water and sanitation.

The reason we do not collect rainwater for production is that our factory is located in western Denmark, where – according to international risk calculations – there is no prospect of water shortages. At many of Kingspan’s factories around the world, the situation is different, making this goal valuable at the Group level.

Rainwater lake supports biodiversity

In Denmark, on the other hand, there is a risk of flooding during heavy rainfall. That is why we have sewer separation at our factory site, ensuring that rainwater and wastewater flow separately and thus do not overload the sewer network.

We have established an overflow basin – or rainwater lake – that collects water while simultaneously supporting biodiversity with green oases for animals, plants and insects.
