Troldtekt cement-bonded wood wool consists of wood and a binder. This provides a long service life of at least 50 years, with the potential for the material to enter new cycles when panels or offcuts can no longer be used as acoustic panels.
Our aim is to preserve the value of the acoustic panels for as long as possible. That is why we work according to a resource hierarchy, in which the best solutions are to prevent waste by extending service life and reusing the panels directly. Only then do recycling, recovery and disposal come into play.
We are also working to increase the proportion of recycled material in both our production and products.
The material with the lowest climate impact is often the material that already exists. Thus, work on circularity begins even before an acoustic panel needs to be discarded. We emphasise designing and producing acoustic panels with a long service life, so that their lifespan within buildings can last as long as possible.
According to our environmental product declarations (EPDs), Troldtekt acoustic panels have a service life of at least 50 years. However, we see examples of projects where the panels have lasted even longer than that.
When buildings are renovated or spaces are given new functions, it is therefore relevant to investigate whether the existing Troldtekt ceilings can be preserved. Acoustic panels can often be given a new lease of life through cleaning, painting or minor repairs.
During renovation, transformation or demolition, Troldtekt acoustic panels can, in some cases, be given a new lease of life through direct reuse, recycling or upcycling.
This requires the panels to be in a suitable condition and have the ability to dismantle them gently. The options always depend on the specific project, how the panels were previously installed and any surface treatment.

Not all material makes it into the building. We have therefore established return models for the Troldtekt cement-bonded wood wool waste generated in our own production.
At the factory in Troldhede, we sort production waste, discarded panels and offcuts so that the materials can gain new value .
> Some cement-bonded wood wool waste can enter new cycles – for example as livestock bedding, ground cover or riding paddock surfacing.
> Other waste is taken back by our cement supplier so that it can be used in cement production as fuel and as raw material (filler) in new cement.
> Finally, we crush residual wood from production so that we can recover it in our bio-boiler at the factory.
Take-back scheme for construction site cut-offs
Troldtekt also operates a return scheme for clean Troldtekt cement-bonded wood wool offcuts and waste from building sites. Under the scheme, developers, contractors and other customers can return offcuts and waste so that the material can gain new value instead of being handled as ordinary construction waste.
