Leichlingen swims sustainably into the future
The new Blütenbad baths in Leichlingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, meet the highest standards of comfort and sustainability and offer accessible bathing and sauna enjoyment for the whole family.
The Düsseldorf-based architecture firm POS4 Architekten in Leichlingen (Rhineland) built a state-of-the-art new building commissioned by Leichlinger Bäderbetrieb und Beteiligungs GmbH. The fact that the city has been officially named “blossom city” since 2013 due to its extensive orchards is also reflected in the new logo for the baths – a colourful flower combined with a wave – which welcomes guests clearly visibly on the white exterior façade of the light-flooded indoor swimming pool.
Certified sustainable design
With a total area of 2726 square metres, the design of the new indoor swimming pool meets the highest sustainability criteria and has also been certified for sustainability by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für den Badewesen. The equipment installed includes modern ventilation systems with heat recovery and special pump systems, which, combined with a large-scale photovoltaic system on the green roof, increase comfort and minimise operating costs.
Swimming and wellness
Inside, the bathing facilities feature a 25-metre swimming pool with sports swimming track, non-swimmer pool with adjustable floor, massage nozzles and splash shower, as well as a children’s bathing area with slide. There is also a spa area with a variety of saunas and steam rooms, including a Kneipp water treading pool, as well as a shop.
Bright and friendly design
Large window fronts, light-coloured floors and colourful accents give the interior a bright and friendly character. The colourful and lovingly designed children’s area also features the Hase Felix cartoon character, whose creator Anette Langen lives in Leichlingen. The overall design is rounded off with the light Troldtekt acoustic panels, which are also suitable for the warmest and most humid environments such as swimming pools, shower rooms and wellness facilities. They are mounted on the high ceiling above the white steel structure and provide a pleasant acoustic environment.
